Scorpion vs. Black Widow

Who wins? A Scorpion or a Black Widow? Before I get to the answer, this question brings to mind a recent experience. I recently was coaching my son's little league team. Coach pitch is an interesting stage in baseball. We had a lot of fun and I learned a new word from one of my seven year old players. He asked, "Coach, who are we versing?" I laughed I actually made him repeat himself several times before it made sense.

So right now the Scorpion is versing the Black Widow. The winner is unequivocably the Black Widow.

I know most of you are surpised. How do I know. Well, I was training a technician last year and he wanted to collect some specimens as we went through the day. First he captured a scorpion in his water bottle. Next, at another account, he captured a Wolf Spider. The Wolf spider was running all over the place, but the Scorpion really couldn't care less about the Wolf spider, even when it was on top of the Scorpion. Later that day, we happened upon a Black Widow. The Black Widow was very carefully put into the bottle. Within two minutes the Black Widow had killed the over-active Wolf spider and wrapped it in silk. Within ten more minutes the Scorpion was wrapped in silk and frozen by the Black Widow's venom.

She (the Widow) doesn't mess around.
